saw this trailer earlier...
It does indeed look interesting...well, for the part of me - the frosty side that’s a terrible sucker for these kinds of films would be so entertained by this, and certainly bewitched by Claire Danes...no question...then there’s the other part, the bitter, lonely fuck, who, the last thing he’d like to do is watch some beautiful girl simultaneously date two guys who’d be pleased as pickles to walk through a wall of fire for her...”oh decisions, decisions”...argh...on some level, it strikes me as the kind of movie especially made for some freak cross section who enjoyed the beautiful nuances of “Lost in Translation” and yet also loves to watch “EliminaDate”...
likelier than not, I’ll wait for it to eventually show up on the Turner Network at 3 in the morning and ball my stupid eyes out...heh...the frosty side is so powerful during the A.M. hours...it helps that the other side is a glutton for punishment.

I read the book (Steve Martin wrote it) while I was in the joint. It was surprisingly good. Kind of dry in a Steve-Martin fashion, but really sweet and well told.

I'm gonna have to catch the flick.

I'm a bit more intrigued...didn't realize it was a book...and, for some reason, that tends to help my decision making process...heh...although it's way in the ozone unlikely that I'd go see that movie like that alone...though I might read the book.
no spoilers, but i imagine it having the "Casablanca" ending, where she settles for the stability of the successful older guy, and they'll have set up the younger guy to be such a sweetheart that he understands, thus saving the audience from feeling too bad for him...or she winds up choosing neither of these guys...either way I'd almost put money ( granted if i had any..heh ) that the character played by Jason Schwartzman is doomed...heh

this should in no way be taken as any kind of indictment regarding the quality of the story, but I have to say that I honestly cannot remember any of what the book was about beyond the title.

all I can recall is that I enjoyed it (more of a novella than a novel).

I also read the book, but in my head I get it confused with Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk.

When I finished reading the book, I found out they were making a movie and remember that I thought that was cool.

heh...that makes two comments regarding a lack of remembering the story...now I'm even more curious to read it...heh
and you know...like I said, 'the frosty side' is pretty certain I'd enjoy the film...I don't know...just something about Hollywood constantly reminding us all just how many hoops a guy has to jump through for a woman to pay attention to him...
and sure, it works both ways to some extent, but I doubt so for the Claire Danes of this world.

hahaha...elimidate. As much as I wanna tear my eyes from that show, it's interesting as hell. There's a human compulsion to see others rejected I think... While watching it, you just appreciate that you were stupid enough to be one of those people on the show.

I think the bookmovie would be better as...a book. And hearing how forgettable it was, makes me want to read it and see if it affects me the same way. Plus, I love Steve Martin.

I saw the trailor in the theatre and saw right off that it was based on a book by one of the lead actors. it made me laugh and I think it's sad we already know the ending ahead of time. of course she'll end up with the cute twerp.

dictionary - "twerp" - n : someone who is regarded as contemptible.

do you really know how it ends or is that an educated guess?
odd that, in the wee hours of yesterday, this movie could have seemed important enough to me to post and ponder...i must be a basket case...:)

He's being shown as a twerp compared to the "good" choice of the rich man, right? So of course he's going to win. It's hollywood, I thought.

true...I guess my initial take on it, was that the Hollywood cooks in their Hollywood kitchen stirred up this soup, whereby the people who really dug “lost in translation” but were somehow let down by the ending, could satisfy their appetite by watching yet another aged comedian romance another young women...but to spice things up, she’s not married this time, but attracted to a guy who, while lovable, is simply too shiftless to be with...:)...thus sticking it to us shiftless types again...heh....this was my biased take...either that, or she decides to be with neither of these guys, considering how they just sort’a fell out of the sky into her life one day and she has intimacy issues..heh
